Amount of the tuition fee/Students’ Union fee

The amount of the tuition fee depends on your citizenship, duration of studies and on whether you are enrolled in a degree programme or non-degree programme. FAQ
-
I am EU/EEA citizen. Why is the tuition fee prescribed for me?
Check u:space > Studies > Study overview to see which degree programmes you are admitted to. As soon as you pay the tuition fee/Students' Union fee at the University of Vienna all degree programmes are continued. It does not matter if you actively study them or not. The tuition fee is prescribed if you exceed the stipulated degree programme duration plus tolerance semesters. If a degree programme that you (currently) do not want to continue is in your study overview, you can close it. The amount of the tuition fee will then be calculated anew.
-
I have equal status. Why is the tuition fee prescribed for me?
If you have equal status with EU/EEA citizens you are exempt from the tuition fee as long as
- your residence permit is valid and
- you are within the stipulated degree programme duration + tolerance semesters.

Will my Erasmus+ semester be counted for the tuition-free period for EU/EEA citizens?
Semesters during which you are abroad with a mobility programme are counted in the same way as semesters you spend at the University of Vienna. You do not receive any additional tolerance semesters.
As you pay the Students' Union fee during the Erasmus+ semester, you stay admitted at the University of Vienna. You therefore are also able to take examinations from courses at the University of Vienna that took place during your semester abroad (e.g. at a later examination date).
If you have to pay the tuition fee, you can apply for remission of the tuition fee during your semester abroad. This is only possible during the semester in which your stay abroad takes place, not in retrospect.
-
I have dual citizenship. Which tuition fee do I have to pay?
You can only enter one citizenship in u:space. You have one citizenship from an EU/EAA country or Switzerland and another from a non-EU/EEA country? Enter the citizenship that is more beneficial for you.
If your citizenship has changed, please message us for a change of personal data.

I study at two public universities in Austria. Where do I have to pay the tuition fee/Students' Union fee?
You can choose where you pay. The fee will be forwarded to all universities you are admitted to via the Austrian Federal Computer Center ("Bundesrechenzentrum"). If you choose to pay at another university: Do not forget to re-enrol on your degree programme at the University of Vienna.
Please note: If a higher fee is prescribed at one university, it is best to pay there directly. If you pay at the university where only the Students' Union fee is prescribed, you have to separately pay the remaining difference at the other university.
For example:
You only pay the Students' Union fee at another university. At the University of Vienna you have already exceeded the stipulated degree programme duration + tolerance semesters. A few days after paying at the other university you can verify in u:space > Financial Matters > Tuition fee/Students' Union fee if the Students' Union fee has already arrived. Then you pay the prescribed tuition fee at the University of Vienna. You only have to pay the tuition fee, the Students' Union fee is forwarded by the other university. -
I am studying a degree programme and a continuing education or training programme at the Postgraduate Center. How much do I have to pay?
If you only have to pay the Students' Union fee, you pay it with the programme fee for the Postgraduate Center. You do not have to take any further steps.
If you also have to pay the tuition gee, you have to pay it within the payment period. Detailed information about the payment options is available in u:space > Financial Matters > Tuition fee/Students' Union fee.
