Hungarian (Teaching Subject)

The Teacher Education Programme in the subject Hungarian at the bachelor's level equips students with professional key qualifications for teaching the Hungarian language. The degree programme focuses on a sound language training, taking into account topics related to linguistics, literature and chorology, and a didactic basic training.

Graduates of the Teacher Education Programme in the subject Hungarian acquire practical language and teaching skills as well as linguistic, literary and cultural competences. The practical-philological part of the degree programme aims at attaining excellent active and passive language skills, including pronunciation, grammar, stylistics and an extensive vocabulary as well as the ability to understand and produce complex written and oral texts. In the didactic part of the degree programme, students deal with basic didactic questions of the teaching subject. A special focus is on the discussion of various models of foreign languages teaching and the latest research findings on language acquisition. Students also acquire language and literary as well as regional and cultural expertise, so they can keep their knowledge of language development, literature and socio-cultural development up to date. 

In the subsequent master’s programme, students further develop their subject-specific and didactic skills. The master’s programme aims at increasing the ability to independently continue their education in the field of language, literature and culture.

In order to attain excellent language proficiency during the bachelor’s programme, which is necessary for teaching Hungarian, language skills at level A2 (according to the European Framework) are an entry requirement. The additional exam in Latin must be completed before the end of the bachelor’s programme.

General Information about the Teacher Education Programme

The teacher education programme for secondary school teachers (of general education) consists of a bachelor’s programme (8 semesters/240 ECTS credits) and a master’s programme (4 semesters/120 ECTS credits).

Students select two teaching subjects according to their interests and acquire subject-related academic and didactic knowledge. In addition, they have to complete courses on General Principles of Educational Science and Studies on Teaching.

Students who would like to study a third teaching subject, can do so by completing an extension curriculum.
