Graduates are qualified to develop and carry out research projects independently or in teams, and to work in a wide range of occupational fields that deal with the reception, analysis, preparation, presentation and implementation of research results.

Study Programme

The master’s programme comprises modules on the following subject areas: methods, theories, regional fields of research, thematic fields of research 1; alternatively: thematic fields of research 2 or language and interdisciplinary regional competences, research design and practical skills, and anthropological laboratories. In addition, students have to write a master’s thesis and pass a master’s examination.

After Graduation

Graduates can pursue a career in the following occupational fields:

  • teaching at universities, universities of applied sciences and in adult education
  • drawing up regional expert reports relating to international cooperation, development cooperation, and culture and technology transfer
  • providing intercultural expertise, e.g. in the area of migration, intercultural health and medicine, or in operations of NGOs and international missions
  • analysing communication between different groups (e.g. business anthropology, consulting, conflict management)
  • matters of “customary law”.
