Islamic Religious Education (Master)

The teacher education programme offered as part of the Master's program in Islamic Religious Education at the University of Vienna is aimed at acquiring the specialist and didactic skills that enable graduates to teach Islamic religious education at various types of schools. In addition, the prospective teachers should be able to reflect on Islamic theology both from their own tradition and in the context of current social conditions in Europe. The research focuses on the conditions and possibilities of anchoring and reflected perception of Muslim life and the religion of Islam in a pluralistic society.

    • as German-speaking Islamic Religious Education teachers at state higher secondary schools in Austria
    • to present and explain Islamic contents in a competent and contemporary manner in the respective social context and from the perspective of gender equality
    • to engage in intercultural and interreligious dialogue with religions and world views based on the ability to exercise self-criticism, tolerance as well as willingness and ability to cooperate
    • to carry out activities in the areas of community or chaplaincy and social work.
