Arabic Linguistics (Master)

The master's programme in Arabic Linguistics at the University of Vienna qualifies students to conduct independent linguistic and, in particular, dialectological research on the Arabic language. Graduates are able to use basic methods and questions of general linguistics to analyse and describe the spoken varieties of Arabic.

The programme consists of seven compulsory modules, three elective module groups, the preparation of a master's thesis and a master's examination.

    Graduates of the master's programme in Arabic Linguistics at the University of Vienna are particularly qualified to work in the following areas:

    • in science, teaching and research.
    • in national and international public administration organisations.
    • in teaching at adult education institutions.
    • in the field of developing speech recognition and automation with reference to spoken Arabic.
    • as employees in companies with an Arabic clientele.
    • in institutions dedicated to integration work.

    In addition, they are also qualified to work in other professional fields in which a good knowledge of the Arabic cultural area and the Arabic language is required.
