Biology (Bachelor)

The bachelor’s programme in Biology gives a basic understanding of biology and its subdisciplines. It equips students with general knowledge of biology and important fundamental subjects, such as chemistry, physics, statistics, ethics and gender issues. Students then have the opportunity to specialise in one of seven areas of study (anthropology, microbiology and genetics, molecular biology, ecology, palaeobiology, plant sciences, zoology).

We recommend language proficiency in English equivalent to level B2, as courses in the bachelor’s programme in Biology are held in both German as well as English.

Study programme

The bachelor’s programme in Biology consists of an Introductory and Orientation Period (STEOP), imparting knowledge from the area of biology as well as fundamental subjects (chemistry, physics, statistics, ethics, gender issues), and a specialisation in one of seven areas of study (anthropology, microbiology and genetics, molecular biology, ecology, palaeobiology, plant sciences, zoology) available as groups of compulsory modules. To successfully complete the programme, students have to write a bachelor’s thesis.
