Studying a non-degree programme (again)

You were admitted to the University of Vienna in the past and want to be admitted to a non-degree programme now? Non-degree students are not admitted to a specific degree programme but, for example, to the "attending of individual courses" or to a continuing education programme.

Attending individual courses

You were admitted at the University of Vienna in the past and want to visit individual courses out of interest, e.g. during an educational leave? If this is the case, you have to note several things:

  • Examination attempts in the non-degree programme are also counted in the degree programme. If all examination attempts are graded negatively, you will be permanently excluded from the degree programme, and you cannot study this degree programme.
  • You have to pay the tuition fee as well as the Students’ Union fee.
  • Course places are preferably distributed among degree students.
  • During a non-degree programme it is not possible to pass (partial) diploma examinations, module examinations or public defenses.

Message us via the contact form within the application period and attach a scan of your passport or personal ID card. Please also send us the certificate of your name change, if applicable. We will admit you to the non-degree programme and inform you about further steps via e-mail. The processing may take several days.

Another option is the admission to a bachelor/diploma or master programme, if you fulfil the admission requirements.

University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities (VWU)

You have discontinued your studies at the VWU and want to attend courses or complete supplementary examinations there again? Returning to the VWU is possible, if you have visited the VWU for less than four semesters and the degree programme is still offered in the same form at the University of Vienna.

Detailed information regarding deadlines and costs is available directly at the VWU. For the completion of the admission to your non-degree programme at the University of Vienna, proceed as follows:

  1. Inform yourself about deadlines. Registering at the VWU is only possible within the registration period of the VWU.
  2. First, pay the course fee at the VWU. You can find detailed information regarding this topic directly at the VWU.
  3. Wait for a few days. The University of Vienna is informed about your payment at the VWU.
  4. Subsequently, the required Students’ Union fee is prescribed. If you do not find any payment information in u:space > Financial matters > Tuition fee/Students’ Union fee), you still have to wait.
  5. After paying the Students’ Union fee, wait for a few days until the prescribed fee is displayed as "received" in u:space. This may take up to seven working days. Afterwards, your student documents are available for download in u:space (Personal matters > My documents), and you are admitted to the non-degree programme again.
