Completion of the University Preparation Programme and transfer to a bachelor/diploma programme
You have successfully completed all supplementary examinations at the VWU? The next step is the transfer to a bachelor/diploma programme.
The procedure of this change depends on two questions: Is an entrance exam procedure conducted in the degree programme of your choice? And, if yes, have you already successfully participated in it?
Bachelor/diploma programmes without entrance exam procedure
You can be admitted to a bachelor/diploma programme without entrance exam procedure if the following applies to you:
- You have an admission letter for the degree programme of your choice
- You have successfully completed all prescribed supplementary examinations at the VWU.
Both points apply to you? In this case, proceed as follows:
- Inform yourself about upcoming admission periods
- Merge all certificates of supplementary examinations and the admission letter of the degree programme of your choice into one PDF file.
- Send the PDF file via the Servicedesk to the Admission Office, within the admission period of the semester you would like to be admitted in.
We will review your data. Afterwards, you will be preliminarily admitted to the degree programme and you will receive information regarding further steps via e-mail. The processing of your request may take several days.

- Summer semester 2025: from 7 January to 31 March 2025
- Winter semester 2025/26: to be announced
Information for persons with secondary-school leaving certificate from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland
If your secondary-school leaving certificate is from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you only have to complete the supplementary examination in German. Send the certificate of your supplementary examination in German via the Servicedesk to the Admission Office within the admission period, to transfer to your degree programme. If you have applied for multiple degree programmes, please specify which degree programme(s) you would like to be admitted to in your message.
You would to be admitted to a different bachelor/diploma programme without entrance exam procedure than initially planned? If this is the case, you have to apply for admission in u:space within the application period. Please use your existing u:account to submit your application.
Bachelor/diploma programmes with entrance exam procedure
If you want to study a bachelor/diploma programme with entrance exam procedure, you have to participate in the entrance exam procedure of the degree programme of your choice. The entrance exam procedure for bachelor and diploma programmes is only valid for the winter and summer semester following the procedure. The successfully completed entrance exam procedure for the bachelor programme in Teacher Education it is valid indefinitely.

- Semester start: 1 October
Summer semester 2025:
- Admission period: from 7 January to 31 March 2025

I have not successfully participated in the entrance exam procedure yet
To participate in the entrance exam procedure you have to register for it within the application period. After you have successfully participated in the entrance exam procedure and completed all supplementary examinations, you can be admitted to a degree programme within the admission period of the following winter or summer semester.
This is how you register for the entrance exam procedure:
- Complete the Online-Self-Assessment (OSA).
The OSA is the first step of the entrance exam procedure. After completing the OSA, you will receive your OSA code. You need this code to register for the entrance exam procedure. The bachelor programmes in Psychology and Sport Science do not have an OSA. - Log into u:space.
You do not have to create a new u:account. Log in with your existing data. If you forgot your login data, please contact the Helpdesk of the Vienna University Computer Center (ZID). - Choose the degree programme of your choice.
Select the degree programme for which you would like to complete the entrance exam procedure, at Studies > Apply for admission, as you did when you applied for admission in the past.

Documents that were already confirmed by the Admission Office (status "approved") do not have to be uploaded again.- Secondary-school leaving certificate from a non-EU/EEA country:
Upload your admission letter of your chosen degree programme as document type "Certificate of proficiency in German at level A2". - Secondary-school leaving certificate from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland:
Upload your current student record sheet as document type "Certificate of proficiency in German at level A2".
- Secondary-school leaving certificate from a non-EU/EEA country:
- Confirm your proficiency in German.
Select "Yes, my German knowledge is sufficient. I want to participate in the entrance exam procedure for the coming academic year."

You do not need an OSA code for the bachelor programmes in Psychology and Sport Science. - Pay the administration fee.
If you have completed all documents, choose "continue to submission". Check your data and continue with "pay and submit application". Pay the administration fee of 50 Euro by credit card or eps online payment (only possible with an Austrian bank account).
Now you are registered for the entrance exam procedure. The status of your application has to be "submitted". You can find your confirmation of registration in u:space > Personal matters > My documents. Several days after the end of the application period, you will be informed whether the written exam will take place or not. Also, check the spam folder of your mailbox.
- Complete the Online-Self-Assessment (OSA).

I will complete the supplementary examination only after the beginning of the semester (1 March/1 October), can I already attend courses of the degree programme?
No, you can only register for courses after you have been admitted to the degree programme. We therefore recommend completing the supplementary examinations before the beginning of the semester.
