for the application for admission

Your steps in the admission procedure

Step 1: Prepare the required documents

Before the application period starts, prepare the required documents in the appropriate file format. Scan the documents (in high resolution) and create PDF files. Merge all pages of a document that belong together (e.g. higher education degree certificate + transcripts + legalisation + translation) into one PDF file by means of an online tool of your choice. All your files should be easily readable and provided in high quality.

Step 2: Apply for admission in u:space

  1. Create your u:account in u:space within the application period. Make sure, that you remember your login data. You will need your u:account during your studies.
  2. Log into u:space to complete the registration. Select the degree programme of your choice.
  3. Upload the required documents.
  4. Check the summary to see if the data you've entered is correct (especially your e-mail address) and choose "submit application".

The Admission Office can only process your application, when the status of your application is "submitted" in u:space > Studies > Apply for admission > My applications.

Missing documents delay the processing of your application. Only submit your application, when you have uploaded all required documents.

Step 3: Wait for your admission letter

After you have submitted your application, you have to wait for your admission letter. The review of your documents by the Admission Office takes several weeks. We cannot provide information regarding the status of your application due to organisational reasons.

You will receive your admission letter to the e-mail address you have provided in u:space. Afterwards, you can also find it in u:space > Personal matters > My documents.

The admission can

  • ensue without any supplementary examinations.
  • ensue with the supplementary examination German in the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities (VWU) and possibly supplementary examinations from the bachelor programme (max. 30 ECTS), which you have to complete by the end of the second semester in the master programme at the latest.
  • be rejected due to missing pertinence.

As you did not upload a proof of proficiency in German at level C1 in your application, the supplementary examination in German will be prescribed. You have to complete the supplementary examination in German at the VWU, before you can be admitted to the master programme.

You will receive information regarding any required supplementary examinations from the bachelor programme in your admission letter. These supplementary examinations are from the bachelor programme in Psychology and compensate fundamental subject-specific differences. You do not have to be admitted to the bachelor programme to complete these supplementary examinations. You can only take these examinations, after you have completed the supplementary examination in German at the VWU and have been admitted to the master programme.

You have to complete the supplementary examination in German at the VWU first. Afterwards you may attend the entrance exam for the master programme. If you have successfully participated in the entrance exam, you can be admitted to the master programme.

Step 4: Register for the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities (VWU)

If the supplementary examination in German is prescribed in your admission letter, you first have to register at the VWU and pay the course fee.

Step 5: Admission

This is how you can complete the admission procedure:

  1. Book an appointment for online first-time admission by using our appointment scheduling tool.
Detailed information on how to book an appointment
As your identity needs to be verified, you have to complete this step in person. Representation by third parties is not possible. You will be preliminarily admitted to a non-degree programme (= attending the VWU). This means that you cannot start with your degree programme yet and that you are only allowed to take the supplementary examination in German at the VWU. After the admission you will receive an e-mail.
  2. Pay the Students' Union fee after your appointment. The admission is completed as soon as the prescribed fee is received in u:space > Financial matters > Tuition fee/Students' Union fee.

The admission to the master programme in Psychology is only possible after you have completed the supplementary examination in German and successfully participated in the entrance exam procedure.

Step 6: Order the u:card

Once the Students' Union fee is "received" in u:space, you can order your student ID card, the u:card.

You can also print your study documents (student record sheet and confirmation of enrolment) in u:space > Personal matters > My documents.

What comes next, after the VWU?

Take the supplementary examination in German. Well ahead before the test (= until 5 July at the latest), contact the Admission Office via the Servicedesk. State that you would like to participate in the written entrance exam. Attach a scan of your successfully passed supplementary examination in German to your message.

Afterwards you will receive an e-mail with further information regarding the entrance exam procedure.
